About ARDE: Handmade Crochet Bags Made in Indonesia
We know what it feels like to look for something beautiful and keep finding the same colours, the same shapes, the same trends — pieces made to be replaced before you've even had the chance to make them yours.
You shouldn't have to change who you are to fit into what's trending.
ARDE is for women who choose differently. Women who want the things they carry to feel personal, useful and a little unexpected — handmade crochet bags and accessories designed with character, colour and everyday life in mind.

Why ARDE Exists
We believe beautiful things are meant to be used.
That's why ARDE was created as an alternative to the idea that fashion has to move faster, follow every microtrend or produce endless versions of the same thing.
We make bags and accessories with a slower approach: considered shapes, expressive colour and materials chosen according to what is available rather than what a trend calendar says should exist.
Our collections are intentionally produced in limited runs. Some colours may return, others may not. That's part of what makes each piece feel personal.
The idea is simple: buy less, choose pieces you genuinely love, and let them become part of your life.

Our story
Our story begins, as it should, with a bag. Luci has been knitting and crocheting since a young girl, taught by her grandma and mum, and Claudia has been wearing and loving bags for as long as she can remember. As basically sisters, with a friendship spanning a decade, it was only natural that our shared passions would intertwine. And so, ARDE was born.

We began by experimenting with fabrics discarded by factories. What started as curiosity quickly became something more meaningful: Seeing wearable pieces emerge from materials that would have otherwise been wasted.
Since then, we’ve built a network of mostly Indonesian women who knit from their homes and within their communities, each piece created with time, care, and skill.

Handmade in Indonesia
ARDE bags are crocheted by hand in Indonesia, working with skilled local makers and small-scale production.
Many of our pieces use rescued textile materials, including leftover yarn from textile production and T-shirt yarn. Rather than designing around an unlimited supply of identical materials, we often begin with what is available and let that influence the colour, texture and quantity of a collection.
Each bag takes hours to make by hand. Depending on the design, a single piece can require around 5–7 hours of crochet and weaving work.
That time is part of the product.
It is why small variations can appear from one piece to another, why quantities are limited and why we don't promise that every colour will be available forever.

What makes an ARDE bag different?
-
Handmade in Indonesia — each piece is created through hours of manual crochet and weaving work.
-
Rescued textile materials — selected leftover yarns and textile materials are given another purpose within our collections.
-
Limited-run production — quantities are shaped by available materials and the time required to make each piece.
-
Expressive colour and texture — each collection is designed around colour combinations that feel distinctive rather than dictated by microtrends.

How We Make Each Piece
Our process starts with the material.
01 — We source what is available
We work with rescued textile materials and selected fibres, choosing them for their texture, strength, colour and potential.

02 — We develop the colour
Colour is a big part of ARDE. We experiment with combinations and shades until they feel right — often inspired by places, landscapes and the way colour exists in everyday life.

03 — We design for real life
A beautiful bag still needs to work. We consider what you actually carry, how the bag sits on the body and how it fits into everyday routines.

04 — We make by hand
Our designs are crocheted by hand in Indonesia. Depending on the style, each piece can take approximately 5–7 hours of crochet and weaving work.

05 — We produce in limited runs
Production follows what materials we can source and the time required to make each piece. This keeps quantities naturally limited rather than producing stock simply for the sake of having more.

06 — You make it yours
Once a bag leaves ARDE, the story continues with you.
It travels to work, dinner, the beach, weekends away and wherever your next day takes you.
That's when it becomes yours.

From Following Trends → To Choosing Your Own
From buying things because everyone else has them
→ To choosing pieces because they feel like you.
From constantly looking for what's next
→ To finding something you genuinely want to keep using.
From mass-produced sameness
→ To colour, texture and small details that feel personal.
From owning another accessory
→ To carrying a piece that becomes part of your story.
That's the kind of fashion we want to make.
Not perfect.
Not disposable.
Not designed to tell you who you should be.
Just beautiful things, made with intention, ready to be lived in.

Worn in Real Life
ARDE pieces have travelled beyond our studio and into everyday wardrobes around the world — from Bali and Australia to women looking for something different further afield.
Our bags are also available through selected independent boutiques and retail partners.

That's where we're here to help.

Want to see the colour in different light? We'll happily send you extra photos.
You can reach us through Instagram DM, WhatsApp or email — whichever feels easiest for you.
We'd much rather take a few extra minutes to make sure you're happy with your choice than have you order something that isn't quite what you imagined.

Tell us what you're looking for, what you usually carry and the colours you love, and we'll help you find your match.

Find ARDE In Store
Sometimes, choosing a bag is better when you can see it, feel it and try it on in person.
We're proud to work with a small selection of independent stores in Indonesia that we genuinely admire and whose values align closely with our own.
Some of these relationships have been part of ARDE's journey from the beginning, including Indigo Luna, where you can find our bags in their stores in Ubud, Canggu and Uluwatu.
We love being part of carefully curated spaces where independent brands, thoughtful design and a more personal approach to shopping come together.

Made to Be Yours
At ARDE, we don't want to tell you what your style should look like.
We want to make beautiful things that leave room for you — your everyday, your adventures, your way of wearing them and the stories you create along the way.
Every ARDE piece begins with materials, colour, design and hours of handcraft. But once it reaches you, it becomes something more.
It becomes yours.
And that's really what ARDE is about.
Beautiful things are meant to be used, loved and lived in.
